Classification
Compounded lipotropic solution; a formulation name rather than a single molecule
Structure and chemistry
Lipo-C is a formulation designation, not a defined chemical entity. Preparations under this name are typically built from methionine, inositol and choline — the classic MIC combination — often with cyanocobalamin and sometimes L-carnitine. Exact constituents and concentrations are set by the compounder and vary between suppliers, so the specification and COA for a given lot are the only authoritative statement of composition.
What the published research shows
No controlled trial has evaluated Lipo-C as a named formulation. The individual constituents have their own literature: methionine and choline in hepatic lipid metabolism, inositol in cell signalling, cyanocobalamin in B12 deficiency. Extrapolating from component literature to a claim about the blend is not scientifically supported.
Mechanism of action
The stated rationale is that lipotropic agents support hepatic export of fat and supply cofactors relevant to fatty acid metabolism. This is a mechanistic argument rather than a trial-supported one.
Development history
A compounding-pharmacy preparation with a long history of use in that setting. It is not a developed pharmaceutical product and has never been through a regulatory approval pathway.
Current regulatory status
Compounded lipotropic preparations are not FDA-approved and are not evaluated by the FDA.
Analytical testing
Because this is a multi-component solution, the meaningful checks are identity and concentration of each declared constituent plus sterility — not a single peptide HPLC trace.
